Based in Birmingham, M-TEC has spent over twenty years turning concepts into finished products for the automotive and engineering industries. In 2010 the business expanded with M-TEC Group, a stand-alone design and engineering center in Coventry.

Today the team includes 50 program managers, lead engineers, designers and support staff. Their work takes ideas from sketch through to production. Alongside interior and exterior automotive projects for top OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, the company has diversified into rail and healthcare.

For some clients, M-TEC connects directly through VPN links. In the early years though, most file sharing happened over email or FTP. “One of our global customers introduced us to MX during a complex program,” recalls Stephen Hanson. “They gave us access to a branded version of MX, a secure, browser-based system that could handle large files of any format. It was simple and reliable from day one.”

With 256-bit encryption, fast transfer speeds and no extra software to manage, MX gives us exactly what we need. If we have internet, we can use it anywhere.

– Stephen Hanson, Engineering and Program Director at M-TEC

Hanson continues, “We quickly saw it was the right choice for our engineers, customers and suppliers too. As proven technology we already trusted, adopting it made sense.” With Majenta Solutions’ support, M-TEC received customized access to MX, enabling secure transfers across remote offices and supplier networks.

Built into Quality Processes

MX is now woven into M-TEC Group’s quality systems. Hanson explains, “Our CAD designers work with lead engineers who review and validate models. Responsibility sits with everyone, so both designers and leads can raise a transfer request. A designated gatekeeper monitors the flow of data in and out of the business.”

All we need is a name and email for a new user, and MX takes care of the setup. It’s simple to administer and straightforward to use. For us it’s cost-efficient, scalable and a core part of our growth plan.

– Stephen Hanson, Engineering and Program Director at M-TEC

MX combines global reach with strong performance tracking. The IT manager can see up-to-date details on every transfer. Hanson adds, “We move a lot of data every day. Even though we have VPN connections with some larger OEMs, we still depend heavily on MX. On average we handle between 20 and 40 files daily, which shows just how essential the system is to our operation.”
